The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) said they were concerned about the sustainability of the sports performance in Uganda.
The call follow Sunday’s victory in which Ugandan iconic long distance runner ASP Joshua Cheptegei delivered a devastating last lap to win a third successive World Championship 10,000 metres gold in Budapest, Hungary.
UPC is now concerned about the future of sports performance when prominent sportsmen and women like Cheptegei retire.
Sharon Oyat Arach, the party spokesperson suggests that the government ought invest in the sports sector in order to roll out more talents.
“This calls for holistic investment for athletics and other talents from grassroot levels to top and participating regularly in all competitions as a country,” Arach said
In related stories, the UPC eulogized fallen URA football club coach, Sam Timbe who was buried on Monday, August 21.
“UPC joins the sports fraternity in Uganda to mourn the former Coffee FC’s Goalkeeper Sam Timbe who by the time of his demise was the coach of URA FC. May His Soul Rest in Peace,” UPC mourned.
