MoH Uganda confirmed new 19 coronavirus cases from 2,170 samples tested on Monday 29th June 2020, rising the total confirmed COVID-19 cases to 889.

A ministerial signed by Dr Henry Mwebesa, the Director general health services, 11 of the  confirmed cases are returnees from Afghanistan who returned to Uganda on Saturday June27th and were under quarantine at the time of test.

Other 8 new cases are the contacts of the previous confirmed cases from Amuru and Kyotera District.

Dr Mwebesa revealed that only 91 of the expected 137 Ugandans who had been stranded in Afghanistan since the emergence of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) returned last Saturday.

He added that majority of the returnees were private security guards in Afghanistan. They arrived at 6:40pm aboard a Bagram Airlines flight.

Additiinally, 25 foreign truck drivers including; 15 Kenyans, Seven Tanzanians, two Egyptians and one Burundian who tested positive for the virus have been handed over to their respective countries of origin.

Uganda has by today 30th June registered 819 covid-19 recoveries and no record of death fatalities.
