The late Dokolo district Woman MP, Cecilia Ogwal Barbrah Atim has been laid to rest today (January 27) at her marital home in Dog Gudu Cell, Alito Town Council, Kole district.
Cecilia Ogwal, 77, passed away on January 18, in a hospital in India after a short illness. She died of cancer disease.
As we mourn and celebrate Atat, our message to Uganda and the current regime is a call for respect towards her by upholding Human Rights.

Deputy Speaker Tayebwa Thomas and other mourners from parliament laying a wreath on the casket to bid farewell to late Hon. Cecilia Ogwal Barbrah Atim, Dokolo district Woman MP at her burial in Dog Gudu Cell Alito Town Council Kole district.

Speaking at a burial ceremony, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) which the deceased subscribed, Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat said the late legislator was a peace making politician challenging the ruling government (NRM) to honor her contributions towards peace building by giving a conducive environment for a peaceful free and fair by-election to fill her position.

“I want to warn the NRM: Atat was a proponent of peace. Please refrain from the use of violence during the Dokolo District by-election to fill her position,”  Hon. Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat warned.

He said the late Cecilia Ogwal was an incorruptible figure and challenged individuals occupying public offices and those in government to desist from all forms of corruption.

“The message we have for those who dip their hands in public coffers is that your time is almost up. She (Hon. Cecilia Ogwal) stood for leadership and was a unifying figure,” said Amuriat.

Among other notable mourners at the burial ceremony was the Vice president of the Republic of Uganda H.E Maj. Gen. Jesca Alupo, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Thomas Bangirana Tayebwa, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly (Parliament of Kenya), Rt. Hon. Gladys Shollei, the Leader of Opposition in Ugandan Parliament, Rt. Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, minister of health Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng, Government Chief Whip, Hon. Hamson Obua, ministers and members of parliament, religious men and women among others.
