Opposition political party the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) warns that much blood shedding is likely to again happen in 2026 general elections if government and other concerned players turns a deaf ear on electoral reforms.

While addressing journalists at party headquarters in Lubaga yesterday, Asuman Odaka, the party secretary general said elections in Uganda are always marred with violence, vote rigging among other irregularities noting that these can only be stopped if electoral reforms are put in place.

“The court during Amama Mbabazi Vs President Museveni case ordered for electoral reforms but it has never happened even the minister of Justice and constitutional affairs, Norbert Mao said it was the same issue he was supposed to start with in his tenure. It’s unfortunate that the same person said government has no money to fund the process of electoral reforms,” Odaka adds.

“It’s time the powers of president to be reduced during campings such as involvement of security in elections, appointment of EC commissioners all need to be revised because all injustice which happen during elections in Uganda are caused by those issues and more is likely to happen in 2026 if nothing is done” he disclosed.

Simbwa Moses, a resident of Jinja City who told president Museveni that he was used by the opposition to claim torture by the Ugandan security.

Meanwhile, the party treasurer Charles Basajja has disclosed that NEED is preparing to mobilize public such that they collect funds for electoral reforms since government failed to raise them.

During the media briefing, NEED said the youth political Activist Moses Simbwa’s confession to the president and his allegations that opposition players have drones is diversion.

Last week, during the 38th Liberation day Celebrations in Busoga region,a one Simbwa confessed to president over his malice and bad talking to government and also revealed that opposition players have drone cars which they use to abduct and torture Ugandans to taint the image of the government.

But Odaka said that Simbwa’s allegations are diversions from the bad governance issues the public is talking about including abductions, torture, killings among others.

“It’s unfortunate that government can rely on information from common person yet it has the highest budget on intelligence,” Odaka adds
