Suspected stolen goats from their unknown farmer have been found by police, with one suspect arrested on suspicion of theft.
The undisclosed number of goats was stolen overnight on Thursday 18th April, 2024.
They were found with a one Kenneth Bashabomwe, 32, a businessman at his home in Nyakahanga cell, Bugongi ward, Northern division Kabale Municipality in Kabale District.
Police was informed by Francis Mugume and when they visited the scene, they found the goats and arrested one person on suspicion of stealing the goats.
“On April 18, our officer received information that there was a man who was in possession of suspected stolen goats at his home. Immediately the OC dispatched police officers to the scene where they found the suspect with the alleged suspected stolen goats in his compound,” said ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson.
Police said the suspect claimed that he bought the goats from a Boda Boda rider in Karukara, Rubanga district who he did not identify.
He was arrested and taken to Kabale police station and charged with being in possession of suspected stolen property.
Maate added that the suspected stolen goats were exhibited and are still kept at Kabale police while tracing for the owners and the suspect in police custody meanwhile as inquiries are underway.
He asked anyone with missing goats to report to police so that they are identified and claimed.
