The campaign scene in Kisoro is heating up as prominent figures from the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) rally behind their candidate, Comrade Ingabire Mable, for the Kisoro District Woman Member of Parliament by-election.

With elections scheduled for Thursday, November 14, UPC party leaders, including President Hon. Jimmy Akena, have intensified efforts to boost support in the district.

Today, a formidable team including Hon. Dr. Eunice Otuko Apio, Hon. Okello Lemba Nelson, Hon. Aguti Sarah, and the party Secretary General Hon. Fred Ebil joined the UPC campaign trail. The team is scheduled to address supporters in Nakabando – Bufumbira East and Kyaye – Bufumbira South, underscoring the party’s commitment to securing a win for Ingabire.

The leaders conveyed UPC’s vision and policy priorities, stressing that Ingabire’s election would bring fresh representation for Kisoro’s women, alongside enhanced focus on healthcare, education, and socio-economic development.

President Akena commended the team’s unity, expressing confidence that Kisoro residents would choose a leader committed to community-driven change.

Kisoro district woman MP seat fell vacant after the death of former minister of state for defense and veteran affairs Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi. Notably, amidst internal tensions within NRM, UPC sees an opportunity to reclaim its influence in Kigezi through Ingabire’s potential win.

Akena has since called on late Hon. Sarah Mateke’s father, Philemon Mateke, a veteran politician who served as a congressman and minister in the UPC government, and currently chairs the NRM district chapter and other dissatisfied members to join UPC.
