The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abbas Byakagaba, has appointed Commissioner of Police James Kusemererwa as the new head of the Land Protection Police Unit with assistant Commissioner of Police Musani Sabila to serve as his deputy.
Having previously served in the Directorate of Human Rights & Legal Services,Commissioner Kusemererwa brings a wealth of experience to his new role and his appointment is expected to bolster the LPPU’s efforts in resolving land disputes more efficiently and justly.
This leadership change is part of a broader restructuring within the Uganda Police Force aimed at enhancing the unit’s capacity to address the complex legal and criminal dimensions of land-related conflicts.
The inspector general of police has also placed the land protection police unit Previously overseen by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations under the Directorate of Human Rights & Legal Services.By placing the Land protection police unit under a directorate focused on legal and human rights issues, the Uganda Police Force aims to improve the unit’s effectiveness in handling land disputes in Uganda that often involve both civil and criminal elements.
The Land protection police unit is one of the many Government entities not limited to State House Land Protection Unit which operates under the Office of the President and Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development a principal government body responsible for formulating land policies, overseeing land administration, and ensuring sustainable land management across Uganda.
