KAMPALA,
Kampala police are hunting for self-proclaimed socialite Christian Asiimwe, popularly known as Don Chris, over a suspected job scam involving over Sh500 million.
Don Chris, known for his flashy lifestyle and event sponsorships, runs a company called Skypins Tours and Travels. The company widely advertised job opportunities abroad on TV, radio, and social media, urging people to visit their offices at Ntinda Haruna Mall.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, victims were told they could travel on loan after paying half of the job placement fee. Jobs were promised in countries like Canada, the UK, Dubai, and Qatar. Many hopeful applicants paid between Shs3.5 million and Shs10 million each, but none of them traveled as promised.
Police investigations show that most payments were made between 2023 and 2024 at the Ntinda office, which has since moved to Kitende along Entebbe Road. Officers are now questioning the reasons behind the office relocation.
So far, 85 victims have recorded statements. They say the company has refused to refund them and claim Don Chris has threatened and intimidated those demanding accountability.
Police also revealed that Skypins Tours and Travels was never licensed by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development to recruit workers for overseas jobs, making the operations illegal.
The case was reported to the Minister of Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, who referred the matter to police. A general inquiry was launched on June 17, 2025, and investigations are ongoing.
