The former minister for agriculture, Wilberforce Kisamba Mugerwa, Uganda’s senior economist, politician, academician and banker, has passed on, family confirmed.
The minister breathed his last today afternoon at Mulago hospital where he was rushed after he reportedly developed breathing complications.
According to reports, he died of the novel corona virus [COVID-19] disease.
Mugerwa is reknown for his role at Uganda Microfinance Support Centre, a government owned program established in 2001, that manages micro credit programmes in Uganda, funded by the African Development Bank (ADB), Islamic Development Bank and the government of Uganda.
Immediately prior to his current position, for the ten years between 2008-18, he served as the Chairman of the National Planning Authority of Uganda, among other capacities.
Funeral arrangements had by publication time not been known
