Francis Adepo has been declared winner of national secretary for youth, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) after beating four other contestants.
Adebo garnered 70 votes in the hotly contested election while his closest contender, Swaburah Nakabira got 55 votes, according to results released by FDC chief electoral commissioner, Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda.
Other contestants were Manful Abeneitwe who got 19 votes and Okot Fredrick Nauries who got 18 votes. The fourth candidate, Brian Okori was disqualified on the last hour after the Electoral Commission found out that he masquerade a delegate from Kyambogo University.
“Accordingly as Electoral Commission, I declare Adepo Francis who obtained the highest number of votes to be the elected candidate for the position of secretary youths FDC,” he said.
Adepo replaces Walid Lubega Mulindwa, as the FDC party youth league.
“We are going to empower youth economically through district and national youth income projects that can give them funds to run activities of the party and improve on individual livelihoods,” said Adepo shortly after taking oaths of allegiance.
He said his cabinet will work together with other youth leagues from different political parties to lay down strategies on causing fundamental change in country’s politics.
“I want to assure the regime that the youth league that has been sworn in today is more vocal, strong and tactical in as far as fighting for the rights of the people of Uganda,” said Adepo.
How other Candidates performed
The medical laboratory techniques student at Medical Laboratory Training School Jinja, Patricia Ayoo Elubu was voted for Publicity Secretary after she got 70 votes against Mbaziira Abdurahman’s 40 votes; Nakayenze Phionah was voted youth vice chairperson Eastern region with 84 against Nakasiita Hope Phoebe who got 81 votes.
Others are Alupo Mercy Marion (100vtes), Ochieng Boniface (27), Olara Isaac (17) and Omunyin Remigio who got 18 votes youth treasurer.
Adiro Catherine Okot, won the election as secretary legal and human rights against her close and third contender; Irumba Patrick – 35 votes and Ocean Luke who got 29 votes.
