Global Markets Standard Bank Group has announced the appointment of Anne Juuko to the position of Global Markets Regional Head-East Africa, effective April 1, 2024.
In this new role, Juuko will be overseeing operations in seven countries, including Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. Heralded for her successful leadership during challenging times, Juuko previously served as the Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Uganda, where she led the institution to notable profitability through turbulent operating environments, including the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Kayode Solola, the Executive Head for Global Markets in Africa regions at Standard Bank Group, commended Juuko for her achievements and expressed confidence in her ability to lead the East Africa region to meet revenue, profitability, and sustainability goals. Patrick Mweheire, the Regional Chief Executive for East Africa, welcomed Juuko to the new role and emphasized her expertise, market networks, and leadership experience as valuable assets for the region.
Juuko’s management record at Stanbic Bank Uganda includes being the first female Chief Executive of the country’s largest commercial lender in 2020. Under her leadership, the bank experienced significant growth, posting a profit after tax of UGX 365 billion in 2022. Moreover, Juuko oversaw successful initiatives such as the SACCO financing program and Stanbic4Her, which supported access to credit for smallholder farmer groups and women-led enterprises, respectively.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Juuko has been actively involved in initiatives to improve maternal and neonatal health in Uganda, showcasing her commitment to social impact beyond banking. With a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Makerere University and a master’s degree in strategic planning from Herriot Watt Business School in Scotland, Juuko brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role at Standard Bank Group.
