According to the CoU, paying off the debt on Church House will enable the church to fulfil its original purpose which is to raise funds for the church ministry and paying clergy pensions.

Speaking at the launch, Archbishop Kazimba said the CoU is celebrating 60yrs of self-governance in Uganda this year appealing to Christians to give a thanksgiving Love Gift towards clearing the construction debt.

“This year 2021, we are celebrating 60 years of self-governance. So, I’m encouraging everyone to give a thanksgiving Love Gift for church house of Shs 60,000 and today is the 6th day of the 6th month of June, in the 60th of self-governance. So, I encourage everyone to give a love gift of 60,000,” Archbishop Kazimba said.

Few days ago, the Archbishop made calls to the public to contribute at least Ugx 60,000 to clear the church’s debt with Equity Bank before its building is taken by the lenders.

A number of generous Ugandans have come out to support this noble cause and pledged their contributions. On June 3, the Speaker of parliament Jacob Lokoli Oulanya pledged to contribute Shs 1million six months from now. Oulanya was attending a scientific martyrs day celebrations at the Anglican shrine in Namugongo.

The church of Uganda has a total population of over 13 million members. So, if only 1 million members give UShs 60,000, the debt can be cleared on time.
