The Bishop of Arua Catholic Diocese, Rt Rev. Sabino Ocan Odoki, has urged Christians to actively participate in church activities and practices throughout the Holy Week. The week, which begins on Palm Sunday and culminates on Easter Sunday, is a significant period for Christians worldwide to reflect on the Passion of Jesus Christ.
In his Easter message, Bishop Odoki outlined the diocese’s Holy Week program, emphasizing the importance of making the week meaningful. Key events include: Wednesday: Chrism Mass at Ediofe Cathedral, where priests renew their vows, Thursday: Holy Thursday Mass, commemorating the Last Supper, Friday: Way of the Cross and veneration of the cross in all parish churches, Saturday: Vigil Mass, marking the transition to Easter Sunday,Sunday: Easter Mass at the cathedral, presided over by Bishop Odoki at 10 am
Bishop Odoki encouraged all able Christians to join in these programs, ensuring a more meaningful Easter celebration. The Easter Triduum, spanning from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday, is the pinnacle of the Liturgical Year in the Catholic Church.
During Holy Week, churches undergo noticeable changes, including the covering of statues and crosses, removal of holy water, and silence of church bells until the Easter Vigil. This period invites Christians to reflect on Christ’s Paschal Mystery and the unity of His sacrifice and resurrection.
