The Vice Chancellor of Bugema University, Dr Israel Masiko Kafeero has said they needs 5 billion shillings to erect a state-of-the-art science complex to mark their diamond celebrations.
Dr. Israel was speaking at a press conference held today Tuesday 16 January , 2024 at Bugema University Kampala campus.
According to the Vice Chancellor, celebrations for 75th anniversary (diamond celebrations) are slated for next – February, 25 at the university main campus in Luweero.
The diamond celebrations, Dr. Israel explained that it will feature Bugema university, Bugema university vocational institute , Bugema Adventist Secondary School and Bugema Adventist Primary School. This will kick start on with a run on February 18, dinner of over 500 guest and Alumni dinner all scheduled for a week before the main celebration.
He said they are expecting to collect funds worth Ugx 5 billion to construct a standard and well equiped science complex.
“The world is going digital. So, science, echnology and innovation is the way to go and I thank Ugandan government for the efforts put to make science subjects the first choice of all subjects” said Kafeero.
“Bugema University and all our sister education institutions since 1948 we are well known for promoting science. It’s with this heart, we are planning to build a 75 years of existence memorial science complex well equiped with different science laboratories and science equipment to assist our students and other children get experience in science” Kafeero said
The VC noted that funds collected from the organized run and dinners will be diverted to construct a state of the art science complex urging Ugandans and well wishers to turn up in large numbers and show up at the celebration.
Parents, guardians and sponsors have also been asked to allow their children offer science and vocational studies for easy social and economic development of uganda as well as their well being saying many people are self employed and living well economically due to vocational studies.
