The African football governing body, CAF has confirmed Morocco and East Africa (Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania) as the official hosts of the 2025 and 2027 AfCON football tournaments, respectively.

This was during a meeting chaired by the CAF President Patrice Motsepe in which the CAF Executive Committee members casted their votes after studying the independent appraisals for each bidder.

The mountainous country of Western North Africa, Morocco was won bid to host the 2025 AfCON while East African countries of Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania will jointly host the 2027, AfCON tournament.

The bid to host the 2025 AfCON was initially won by Guinea but CAF in October, 2022 decided to remove its hosting rights after establishing that the country lacked standard infrastructure and other sports facilities.

Algeria which was also in the race but on Tuesday, the Algeria Football Federation (FAF) president Wali Sadi publicly announced that they were withdrawing their bid in a televised show.

Uganda Kenya and Tanzania won the bid under their joint bid dubbed “Pamoja Project” bid.

Speaking at the press conference after announcing the winning bidders, Motsepe, the CAF President said; “The commitment and drive made by the three presidents of the countries shows how eager the region is to host this event.”

Zambia and Botswana, Nigeria and Benin lost their  joint bids to host the 2027 AfCON tournament. Other countries which lost are Egypt and Senegal whereas Algeria withdrew from the race on the eve of the announcement.

This is the first time the East Africa is hosting AfCON competitions.Kenya will host their games at Nyayo Stadium, Kasarani stadium and Kipchoge Keino Stadium, Uganda will host at Mandela national stadium, Namboole while Tanzania will host the games at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, Chamazi Complex and CCM Kirumba Stadium.
