In celebration of International Women’s Day, we shine a spotlight on Tumwijukye Jemimah Buhanda, a 71-year-old teacher, counselor, mother, grandmother, and advocate for children. Hailing from Nyabushabi, Kyanamira in Kabale district, Buhanda has dedicated her life to service and leadership.
From her early days as a team captain in primary school to her current role as the chairperson LCV Sheema district, Buhanda has always been a strong and outspoken woman. She has served as a councilor, district speaker for Bushenyi and director of Kihunda parents secondary school.
Buhanda attributes her success to confidence and persistence, urging women to step up and offer themselves for leadership positions. She believes that as long as a woman is committed and passionate, she can excel in any role.
Reflecting on her journey, Buhanda emphasized the importance of family and community. She highlighted the need for mutual respect between husbands and wives to prevent domestic violence, noting that communication and understanding are key to a harmonious relationship.
As Sheema continues to progress under her leadership, Buhanda remains grateful for the support of the community and her fellow leaders. She encourages women to believe in themselves, work hard, and strive for excellence in all areas of their lives.
