The supreme court in Kampala has allowed National Unity Platform leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, aka Bobi Wine to withdraw the petition which he had filed challenging president Museveni’s victory in the January 14, elections.
The decision to withdraw an application came after Kyagulanyi and his party thought the court has not put in place grounds favorable for his petition to succeed something that made get biased on the same court.
During the application hearing on Friday, the panel of nine justices accepted that it was right for the petition to be withdrawn.
The court ruling was read by Justice Stella Amoko Arach one of the nine justices sitting at the Kyagulanyi petitiin panel.
“Considering that the respondents had no objection to the application for withdrawal, leave is hereby granted to the petitioner as prayed. The petition stands withdrawn,” read Justice Stella Amoko Arach.
Court did not however give the reasons and detailed ruling on notice but said it would give the details soon.
“The reasons and determination of costs shall be contained in ruling to be delivered on notice. This ruling is signed by all members of the quorum.”
Parrots UG | Courts: Museveni lawyers welcomed the withdrawal news but insisted to get compensation for their time and resources wasted in the process since the petition was filed.
However, Medard Lubega Ssegona, the lead counsel on Kyagulanyi lawyers asked court to let each side (respondents and petitioners) carry their compensation burden urging that the case was in the interest of the public not Kyagulanyi as an individual.
