Parrots UG | Courts. Having gazetted an application to withdraw petition yesterday, the supreme court has set date for hearing of the application.
The Supreme Court has set Thursday March 4 as dates to hear an application filed by NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu seeking to withdraw his presidential electition petition challenging the victory of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the January 14, polls.
The petitionpetition was yesterday published in the Uganda gazatte and was highlighted by the Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny Dollo.
On February 24th, Kyagulanyi lawyers led by counsel Medard Lubega Ssegona filed before the supreme court their client’s application to withdraw his earlier poll petition.
The application was however rejected by the chief justice and on grounds that the law requires among other requirements that the such kind of application has to be first gazetted in Uganda gazette before its heard.
The CJ informed all parties involved in the case that is to say; Kyagulanyi lawyers (Petitioners) and Attorney General, Electoral Commission and President Museveni lawyers (Respondents) that once the gazatte is out, then he will notify them on the day for application hearing.
Background. Bobi Wine decision to withdraw his election petition case comes after he anticipated bias on the panel of justices and court blockade of NUP affidavits to backup his evidence in court among other reasons.
