Parrots UG|Courts: The supreme court is any time from now (Monday, March1) expected to gazette notice of an application filed by the National Unity Platform, former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi to withdraw his petition challenging president Museveni’s reelection. Solomon Muyita, the principal of communications has said.
Kyagulanyi’s decision to withdraw the petition follow attempts to submit in additional evidence to back up his case but were dismissed by court judges something that raised bias of the bench of justices to preside over the petition.This prompted him to dire t lawyers to apply for a case withdraw opting for a public opinion court.
On Wednesday last week, the Chief Justice-CJ Alfonso Owiny Dollo adjourned the hearing of the presidential election petition withdrawal application on grounds that such an application must be gazetted before hearing it.
CJ Owinyi ordered the registrar of the court to first gazette the application before a date for a hearing can be set.
Muyita said after a gazette notice has been released, the 9 justices of the supreme court will convene to discuss on the date for application hearing.
He however skeptical that the hearing may be set for Tuesday or Wednesday this week based on the outcomes of the meeting.
