A 37-year-old, Moses Obbo is in police custody after he allegedly burned his 4-years-old stepson for stealing and eating his yellow bananas.
It is alleged that Obbo, a carpenter and resident of Komolo zone, Petta sub-county in Tororo district on Monday went home with a bunch of yellow which he had bought , but later found them missing.
He then turned to the minor whom he tied with dry grasses and set him on fire.
Christine Awori, the minor’s mother says that she was not around when the incident happened. She later reported the matter to police which immediately launched a manhunt for Obbo who was on run after committing the offence.
The Bukedi region police spokesperson Moses Mugwe says that they were able to track down Obbo and smoked him out of his hide out.
According to him, the suspect was arrested in Merikit sub-county where he had been hiding.
Mugwe added that the suspect has been charged with torture and will be arraigned to court as soon as the state attorney sanctions his file
