Police at Nabingo on Monday afternoon intercepted a motor vehicle registration number UBJ 803P after CCTV cameras captured it having people embark and disembark at different points.
In his last nation address on COVID-19 on July 18, President Museveni banned movements of private and public vehicles with an exception of vehicles transporting produces, cargo vehicles, emergency vehicles such as Ambulances, security vans, vehicles transporting essential workers and other diplomatic vehicles on conditions of acquiring permits from the ministry of works.
It’s has however been noted that many drivers now carry passengers under guise of delivering cargoes contrary to the presidential directives on public transport.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala metropolitan police told reports that upon search , 14 people were found inside the vehicle. He said they arrested the driver Lubega Hassan, and all the passengers.
“When we interrogated the suspects , they have informed police that the driver one Lubega Hassan was taking them to Mpigi , Masaka and Mbarara charging the between 50,000 to100, 000 Ugandan Shilling,” Owoyesigyire said.
The suspects are currently detained at Nsangi Police station . More details to be availed .
