Forum for Democratic Party (FDC) has launched a humanitarian drive to render support to the people of Kasese and Bundibugyo districts who were recently affected by landslides.

While speaking to the Press, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, the FDC party president said that the drive themed: “Restoring hope and lives” expresses that FDC sympathises with the people affected by heavy floods and landslides in the Rwenzori subregion.

He further noted that the drive is a humanitarian act and therefore no should not be politicized.

“This is a humanitarian not a political drive. Therefore, I call upon all people of different political groups to take part in this drive.” He noted.

 

A six members Task Force committee was established headed by Rukungiri Municipality MP Roland Mugume Kaginda who shall be deputised by Hon William Nzoghu, MP Busongola North and many others.

Items such consignment of clothes, 300 blankets (donated by a non disclosed willingful supporter), 12tonnes of maize flour and funds worth Shs 20m were all handed over to the Task force Committee Chairperson Hon Roland Kaginda.

Some of the items which the FDC has raised as part of the drive to support the victims of floods and landslides in the Rwenzori subregion.

Additionally, the party urged all generous Ugandans to give in contributions in form of; food, clothes,beddings and financial support through the party which will later deliver them to affected persons.

All items can be dropped at FDC party Headquarters in Najjanankumbi or at People’s Government offices along Katonga Rd. Others donated items can be directly collected from a donor’s home through the transport means which the party shall provide.

It should be noted that on the 25thMarch, 2020, the river banks at River Nyamwamba, Mubuku, Nyamughasana, Lubhiriha, burst leaving over 125,000 people displaced and about 8 dead. Most of these are now in different camps hosted in schools, churches in Kasese and Bundibugyo districts.

FDC president Parick O Amuriat flagging off a Task Force to head a drive to support the flood affected persons in Kases. Over 300 blankets were donated by a willing FDC supporter to aid in supporting the floods affected persons in Kasese.

Mp Kaginda, the Task Force Chairman urged Kasese districts administration to be corporative with the FDC in this drive. He also assured people of  transparent deliveries.

Kaginda noted that by the end of this week, the task force shall have delivered part of the collected items which shall be ready.
