Hajji Twaha Kakaire, the 24th president of the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has passed on.
FUFA announced the bad news on their social media platforms.
“We have just learned the unfortunate news of the passing on of Hajji Twaha Kakaire, the 24th FUFA president.” FUFA announced.
The football regulatory body eulogized the deceased as a key player in the development of Uganda’s football.
“Hajji played a key role in the development, growth of football and institutions during his leadership. We grieve in honour of his football works.”
Burial arrangements according to FUFA will be communicated at a later time.
About Kakaire
Kaire was the 24th president of FUFA between 1995 and 1998.
Kakaire was the first FUFA boss to bring on board, the first sponsorship in the history of the national league when he convinced Nile Breweries to bankroll the topflight league in 1997.
In May 2021, he was recognised at the ForteBet Real Stars Sports Awards held at Route256 restaurant in Lugogo, Kampala.
Kakaire is the first recipient of the Life Time Achievement award as Real Stars move to grow wings.
He was the FUFA boss from 1995 when he replaced Moses Ali until 1997, replaced by Denis Obua. Obua defeated Kakaire with 67 votes to the latter’s 61 votes.
During his reign, Uganda won the CECAFA championship in Sudan and he notably lobbied funds for the Federation, and the league finally got its first sponsorship (Nile Breweries) in 1997.
He was the first to introduce Women Football in Uganda.
