The suspects have been identified as L/Col Anguria Simon Peter, Pte Musudi Caroline, Pte Odeke Simon and Pte Okello Isaac.

These were seen in a video footage assaulting a one Joseph Luzige, the Chairman LC5 Mityana district while enforcing coronavirus  directives.

The incident occured in Mityana town in evening hours when Luzige was trying to save a woman who was being beaten by the LDUs personnel.

“I was going to the hospital and found them beating a woman who had fallen down and was bleeding profusely. When I asked them to arrest instead of beating people, one of them who was drunk started pushing me,” said Luzige.

Police then appeared Luzige was arrested and whisked to Mityana police station.

Maj Bilal Yusuf Katamba, the UPDF First Division and also LDUs spokesperson confirmed the arrests of the four officers and said the LDU personnel who pushed and pointed a gun at Chairman Luzige has been disarmed.

“We arrested and detained four of our officers in connection to the manhandle of Mityana LCV Chairman Joseph Luzige. As updf we condemn the gross acts of our officers because thats not what they are trained to do,” Maj Bilal Katamba said.

Yesterday, the UPDF spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire said they had patched a team of the UPDF officers to Mityana district to make assessments and confer with both the district leaders and security committee as regards the matter.

Brigadier Karemire said perpetrators will be arrested and prosecuted inline to the laws of the land.
