The Police in Kisoro district have arrested four minors for waylaying a banker with DFCU bank identified as Evarist Muhereza as he returning home on Wednesday night.

One of the suspects is a 16-year-old senior two student in one of the secondary schools in Kisoro Municipality while others are primary school pupils in Nyakabande sub county aged 15 and 16 years.

This was yesterday confirmed by the Kisoro police community liaisons officer, AIP Arinaitwe Boaz during a press briefing at Kisoro central police station.

According to Arinaitwe, the incident happened at around 10:20pm near Kisoro primary teachers’ college (PTC). He says that Muhereza was saved by nearby residents who heard his alarming cries due to several beatings by the minors who wanted money and his smartphone.

He also noted that such crimes have been on a rise in Kisoro Municipality and several students have been arrested, tried in court while others are in Kabale Remand home.

He advised parents to bring up their children responsibly in order for them to have a bright future. He asked school administrators to hire trained security guards and install security lights in order to curb cases of escapism from schools.

The Kisoro district police commander (DPC), SP Musisi Richard says that the major challenge has been laxity among school administrators that lead to training of criminals. He vowed to curb the vice by arresting perpetrators and resuming community policing.

He also noted that the district security committee that sat yesterday devised that village defence committees be established so that crime can be curbed thoroughly. He also urged the community to keep working closely with police.

Speaking to the parrot, suspects denied the allegations against them. The senior two students said that he left the school to save his life from teasing at school but got caught up by locals who suspected him to be connected to goons that had waylaid Muhereza.

Primary school pupils who confessed that they have spent days without going to school due to lack of school fees say that they were also caught by locals yet they were on their way back home from Rukundo town council where they had gone to buy sugar canes for sale.https://parrotsug.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/SUSPECTS-ON-INCIDENT.mp3
