The Forum for Democratic Change party has accused politicians in the ministry of health of mishandling the prevention and control of ebola disease.
“The ministry of health is using ebola for statistics and is not bothered to treating our people,” FDC said
This has been raised by the party deputy spokesperson, John Kikonyogo while addressing journalists at Najjanankumbi on Monday.
He says there are uncoordinated efforts between the technical team and other officials in the ministry which affects the prevention of the disease spread.
Citing out the case of Sierra Leone when Ugandan doctors were on the frontline to contain the spread of ebola in that country, Kikonyogo advised that the ministry to use highly experienced doctors in Uganda to curb down the spread of the disease.
It should be recalled that during the ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone in 2014, government sent 20 doctors to help the overburdened governments of Sierra Leone and Liberia in containing the spread of ebola.
While in these two countries, Ugandan doctors gave specializations including epidemiology, case management, community education and psychosocial support.
Fast forward, FDC accuses the ministry of not fully sensitizing the public on safeguarding themselves against ebola.
“The ministry is not doing enough to sensitize people on Ebola yet it’s more dangerous than pandemics like COVID-19,” Kikonyogo said.
FDC suggests that the ministry should buy airtime in the media as well as put in place mobile vans fitted with megaphones to traverse in villages sensitizing people about ebola disease.
