After signing a new contract with Manchester City,Pep Guardiola a highly rated coach in the world has made history by losing five consecutive games for the first time in his managerial career that began in 2007.
The unwanted record was made during Saturday’s clash between Manchester City and Tottenham where the latter emerged victorious with a 4-0 win.
After a League Cup defeat to Tottenham (1-2), Premier League losses to Bournemouth (1-2) and Brighton (1-2), and a UCL reverse at the hands of Sporting CP (1-4), losing to Spurs for the second time in a month is the first time in Guardiola’s career he has overseen a five-game losing run.
During his time in charge of Bayern Munich between 2013 and 2016, the former Barcelona boss saw the Bavarians lose three consecutive Bundesliga games (0-2 vs Bayer Leverkusen, 0-1 vs Augsburg and 1-2 Augsburg), with a 3-0 Champions League semifinal defeat to Barcelona in the middle of the three games in May 2015.
However, the caveat is that Bayern had already sealed the German league title and had taken their foot off the gas as they focused on the Champions League, which they ultimately failed to win.
This result is a remarkable end to City’s unbeaten 52-match run at the Etihad Stadium, which stretched back to November 2022.
As Guardiola and Manchester City enjoy the new unwanted record, all eyes will be on next league game against Liverpool to try and come back to winning ways.
