Former Security minister and National Resistance Army (NRA) historical, Gen. Ally Tumwine has pledged to advise President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa on preparing for a smooth transition of power to Ugandans.
“I will advise President Museveni to prepare a smooth transition of power “for a long-term stability of the country.”
Gen. Tumwine made the remarks on Wednesday at a handover ceremony where he was handing over office to Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi, new security minister.
Gen. Tumwine who was appointed presidential advisor on security in the 2021 cabinet emphasized that advising the President on a peaceful transition is one of the first things he will do.
“As take on my new advisory role, I will advise @KagutaMuseveni to prepare for a smooth transition of power for a long-term stability of our country,” tweeted Gen Tumwine.
“I am happy to be handing over to Maj Gen Jim Muhwezi, a friend and an old-time comrade.
He further pledged to remain supportive to minister Jim Muhwezi in execution of his duties at the helm of the country’s security ministry.
“I promise my resolute commitment to you in executing your official duties at the Ministry. I am humbled to have served my country. I will forever be grateful to President Museveni for being a visionary and excellent leader of the revolution,” Gen Tumwine.
Gen. Tumwine’s remarks come at a time when a number of people from local and international scenes have been accusing President Museveni of overstaying in power and failing to prepare for a peaceful transition of power.
Prominent politicians such as Dr. Kizza Besigye, four times presidential candidate against Museveni on the FDC party ticket and Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu also known as Bobi Wine are on record for accusing the President of election rigging something that has consolidated him in power thus delaying smooth transition.
In history, Uganda has since independence (October 9,1962) never witnessed any peaceful transition of power as many of the previous governments were overthrown through either minor or major military coups.
President Museveni’s over 35yr rule is More less the past governments as he has failed to fulfill expectations of Ugandans in having a smooth handover of power. He (Museveni) has on different occasions been quoted saying that he is the only person with a vision and that he has not seen anyone capable of leading this country.
This statement alone inevitably defines how Gen. Tumwine’s advisories may fall on an infertile and thorny ground.
