In a show of unity, Members of Parliament from the Karamoja sub-region have declared their support for President Yoweri Museveni’s sole candidature in the 2026 presidential elections. The endorsement was made during a mobilization tour by the NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, in Moroto town, Moroto district.
The 18 MPs present, out of 25, cited relative peace, stability, and inclusivity in the region’s development as reasons for their support. They praised the government’s efforts in resettling and empowering the Karamojong through programs like the parish development model, disarmament, and Emyooga.
Hon. Remegia Achia, Chairman of the Karamoja Parliamentary Group, said, “Unlike past regimes, the NRM government has brought development and peace to Karamoja. We pledge our loyalty to President Museveni, who has supported our region.”
Rt. Hon. Todwong commended the legislators for their trust in President Museveni, saying, “Nation-building requires patience, vision, and good leadership, like that of President Museveni.”
On the other hand, the Minister for Karamoja Affairs Hon. Peter Lokeris commended the president for having the Sub-region at heart.
“From the bush, President Museveni had pacification, settlement, and empowerment of the people in this area as point number 8,” Lokeris said.
