The Deputy Vice Chancellor Kampala International University (KIU Western Campus) Professor Frank Kaharuza has today morning withdrawn the pregnancy and pregnancy testing internal memo to nursing students.
“This is to inform you all that the internal memo on pregnancy and pregnancy testing dated 8th November has been rescinded, please focus on getting ready for your UNMEB exams,” Professor Kaharuza noted.
Background:
Yesterday the internet was filled with mixed reactions after an Internal memo from KIU circulated.
In the memo, all female nursing and midwifery students from the university were asked to go for a mandatory pregnancy test at the university health facility or risk missing the forthcoming UNMEB examinations.
In a telephone conversation, an official at the Uganda Nursing and Midwifery Examinations Board (UNMEB) told Parrots Media that since the COVID-19 and prior to the pandemic students who are not in their full term pregnancy period are allowed to sit for their national examinations.
She however referred us to Dr. Safina Kisu Museene, the commissioner Health Education and Training in the Ministry of Education and Sports for further details on the policies.
By press time, attempts to reach Dr. Museene for a comment were futile.
