Pollice in Rukungiri are holding a man in his 50s in connection to assault which resulted into the death of his 44-year-old wife in Rwanama village Kahoko parish Nyakishenyi sub county Rukungiri district.
On April 3, Enid Ndyomuguenyi was assaulted by her husband James Kishaija at their home at around 23:00 who accused her of being drunk.
Preliminary reports indicate that Kashaija returned home from a social evening at Omukikona trading centre, woke up the wife and accused her of being drunk.
The victim also fired back and told the suspect that he also drinks alcohol which annoyed him and assaulted her on the chest and the back using gumboots.
It is further alleged that the suspect pulled the victim off the bed put her on the floor and got a piece of old timber which he used to assault her on the legs, and knees and squeezed her neck after which, he left her naked and helpless on the floor and went to sleep in the next room.
“He slept in another room and when he checked on her the next day in the morning, he found when she had died,” said ASP Elly Maate, the Police spokesperson for Kigezi region.
The suspect alerted his daughter Emily Tushabomwe Emily who informed others including Twinamatsiko Phenehansi who reported the matter to police.
Police visited, examined, documented the crime scene, and recorded statements from witnesses.
They also recovered from the scene a pair of black gumboots and a dry wood (piece of timber) which were used in the murder as exhibits.
One suspect, Kishaija was arrested to help police in investigation while the body taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for postmortem. A case of murder was reported at Nyakishenyi police station vide file reference CRB 377/2024 and inquiries are at hand.
