A 35 year old man in Kalaki district has been held captive for allegedly strangling his nine-month-old son to death after failing to receive the Shs100,000 Covid-19 relief cash for vulnerable persons.
The suspect is identified as William Enyonu, a resident of Achida village, Kaberipila parish Ogwolo Sub-county in Kalaki district while the deceased has been identified as 9 month old, Simon Ebayu. He (Enyonu) allegedly had a fight with his wife Loyce Agwero Enyonu, 26 before he could transfer the anger to their 9 month old son.
According to the residents, Enyonu had been intimidating to villagemates that he would kill all members of his family if he didn’t get the money.
Loyce Egwelo, the suspect’s wife, said on Friday evening at around 11:30 PM, her husband returned home while drunk and initiated a fight but was able to overpower him and turned against the child who he strangled.

Residents were left in shock after learning that Enyonu has completed his evil missions. They reported the matter to Otuboi police station and the area Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Kalikwani rushed to the scene of the crime.
According to the RDC, when the suspect heard that people had received this cash on their mobile phones yet there was no mobile money message on his number, he turned against members of his family.
The RDC said residents had taken the suspect’s threats as a joke.
About COVID-19 relief cash.
The government recently committed to give each vulnerable person Shs100,000 to go through the 42-day lockdown that was announced last month by President Museveni to combat the spread of Covid-19. The exercise kicked off last week at the Office of the Prime Minister.
The suspect after learning about the money that was disbursed on people’s mobile phones yet there was no mobile money message on his number, he turned against members of his family.
It is however known that nobody in Kalaki district had got the money since it was only meant for only vulnerable persons living in municipal and city areas.
Enyonu is currently being detained at Kalaki Central Police Station on charges of murder pending to be produced to courts of laws.
