The Archbishop of the Province of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu has requested Bishop Godfrey Mbitse and Christians of Muhabura diocese to be united and move forward, for the betterment of of the diocese.
Archbishop Kaziimba made these remarks yesterday while presiding over the consecration of Rt Rev Godfrey Mbitse as the 3rd Bishop of Muhabura Diocese at St. Peters Cathedral in Kisoro district.
Archbishop Kaziimba told Bishop Mbitse and Christians to remember humility of Christ, as he entered Jerusalem riding on a donkey where by people responded to his arrival with Joy, the offering of their garments and lives but also betrayal.
Archbishop Kaziimba asked Bishop Mbitse to have humility, God’s grace and endurance as he handles clergy and Christians of Muhabura Diocese not forgetting that he is a Gods steward in whose vineyard he works by consulting him in order to get directed.
Archbishop also asked Bishop Mbitse to keep in God’s word, in fellowship with believers, in prayer as he preaches the word of God and teach God’s people with boldness and patience spend less time on the past and instead help Christians to move forward with progress. He also asked Christians of Muhabura Diocese to embrace peace instead of fighting urging them to support Bishop Mbitse instead of sabotaging his efforts.
Archbishop Kaziimba, however expressed his concern about the cancer of corruption that continues to eat up efforts of peace, unity, reconciliation and development in Uganda leading to compromise of God given values and resources. He cited that Uganda is rich and blessed. He cherished Church of Uganda cooperation and partnership with government in the fight against corruption, ignorance, poverty, diseases, immorality, barbaric and inhuman acts and lack of UBUNTU among Ugandans.
Archbishop Kaziimba also expressed his concern about persecution of Orthodox priests, Bishops and Christians in the whole Anglican Communion, who uphold the Lambeth ’98 resolution 1:10 that upholds marriage as a union between a man and a woman for life and rejects homosexual practice as incompatible with the Bible.
The Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, Rtd Major Jessica Alupo who represented President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, commended Church of Uganda for partnering with government to champion social economic transformation and development in the country.
President Museveni in his speech read by the vice president, He applauded church of Uganda for training priests to serve the church and country. He also appreciated Church of Uganda for its participation in disseminating messages of wealth creation at household level aimed at eradicating poverty.
In his sermon, the Bishop of Kinkizi diocese, the Rt Rev Dan Zoreka, asked Christians regardless of their religious affiliations to unite and work together and fight the enemy of homosexuality that is seriously fighting Christians and country at large and stand up frankly to oppose it saying that Uganda is a holy country.
Bishop Zoreka said that there is no reason to why Christians should emulate homosexuality asking them to have faith and trust in God as they walk their journey of faith.
