Mbarara Junior Primary School has made the city proud by scooping the 5th position in the national schools music dance and drama competitions held at Duhaga Senior Secondary School in Hoima City.

The event, which was graced by various schools from different parts of the country, saw Buganda Road Primary School emerge as the winner for the third time in a row with 1080 points.

The competition featured 12 different acts, including original composition, poetry (health), instrumental, drama about birth registration, poultry about birth registration, Uganda traditional folk songs, creative dance (WASH), Uganda traditional folk dances, story-telling (MAAM), western set piece, western set piece (birthright), and sight-singing.

Representing Mbarara City were two schools- Mbarara Junior Primary School and St. Helens Primary School in Nyamitanga, which claimed the 5th and 39th positions, respectively. The headteacher of St. Helens Primary School, Sister Nakityo  Felicity, expressed gratitude to the pupils for their remarkable performance, especially since it was their first attempt in national competitions.

Sister Nakityo attributed the school’s success to the unwavering support of the parents during the pupils’ stay in Hoima. She also thanked the government of Uganda for embracing Universal Primary Education (UPE), which has seen most children enrolling in schools.

In the competition, pupils with disabilities also showcased their extraordinary performance, leaving the spectators amazed. The competitions had three themes- Action against Malaria (MAAM), Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and Birth Registration- all under the Vision 2040, which aims to harness young people’s potential for Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
