The construction works at Mbarara central market is being done in a laissez fare way something that has delayed its completion.
Minister for the local gov’t Hon Rafeal Magyezi has asked Roko Construction Company Ltd, the site contractor to complete the construction within a period of one week.
“They have one week to finish and they should involve government if they are facing any challenge,” said Magyezi.
Minister Magyezi said these during a visit to the site today Tuesday July4th where he expressed concerns about the slow speed underwhich the construction is being handled. He blamed lack of enough manpower which is causing delays. This has shocked the minister because the contractor has not even applied for an extension yet the finishing dates have elapsed.
Mbarara central market construction project commenced in February 2018 was supposed to be completed in February 2020.
The construction that costs shs21 billion was one of the other projects under World Bank Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development Program (USMID) meant to support infrastructure developments in Municipal markets of Mbale, Tororo among g others.
Other projects have since been completed however the Mbarara central market project is up to now moving at a snail’s speed.
He further asked the contractor to engage government in case they meet challenges.
