Police in greater Bushenyi are having in detention a teacher from Mitooma District on suspicion of leaking UNEB examination paper on a school teacher’s WhatsApp group.
The suspect is Dominic Tumusiime, a Swahili teacher at Kanyabwanga Secondary School in Ruhinda North county, Mitooma District. He allegedly shared information and an image purported to be an examination material for a UNEB Biology practical paper for 2023.
The UNEB public Relations Officer, Jennifer Kalule Musamba said earlier this day that the case of examination malpractice was reported to police by the school Headteacher, Mugizi leading to the teacher’s arrest.
“The file was sanctioned at the Magistrate’s court in Bushenyi and the suspect was due to appear in court today,” she said.
In related news, two more cases of examination malpractice involving Headteachers have been registered in Kwania district and Nagalama respectively.
In Kwania district, the headteacher of Inomo SS has been arrested for tampering with examination material envelope containing mathematics paper 1.
UNEB said that the suspect received a sealed envelope from the station in the presence of the examination officials including UNEB chief scout, security and the area supervisor. It is alleged that the envelope was later tampered with.
Also, in Nagalama, St. Paul Mukasa SS headteacher is in detention after reportedly used his phone to share information alleged to contain UNEB examination paper and asking for money from unsuspecting members of the public. The suspect according to UNEB will be arraigned to court on charges of aiding and abetting malpractice.
The third incident of malpractice happened at African Parl SS in Kabalagala, Makindye West involving a UNEB chief invigilator who was arrested on allegations of giving external aid to second shift students during the Chemistry paper 3 exam on Tuesday.
The board reported that a hand written paper with alleged answers was discovered in a room where the suspect was supervising.
Section 28 of the UNEB Act, 2021 provides that it is an offense to damage or destruct an examination paper, materia or other information. The section further provides for a fine of one thousand currency points (Shs10m) and or 5yrs imprisonment, or both as penalty to any person who commits this offense upon conviction.
UNEB examinations for UCE continue upto November 17, and tomorrow (October 29), candidates will sit for Biology practical paper in the morning and Commerce later in the noon.
