Political opponents in Ruhinda county, Mitooma district were today silenced after areas area MP Hon Dononzio Mugabe Kahonda returned Shs 20m Anti- corona virus money which Parliament portioned to legislators. He also donated a brand new Ambulance vehicle to the district meant to support district in attending to health emergencies.

The return follows court and presidential orders to all MPs to return the money. Hon Kahonda today joined a list of other legislators who in good faith complied to the orders.

While addressing the people during the handover ceremony, Mp Kahonda had this to say:

“I’m a law abiding citizen, I couldn’t go against the orders of President Museveni and those of the High Court, I therefore complied and returned the Shs 20million to help the district task force in fighting against COVID-19,” Mp Kahonda.

He further called for unity of all Mitooma people disregard of their political, social differences to work together for a betterment of the district.

Ruhinda county MP Dononzio Mugabe Kahonda handing over Shs 20m which Parliament had allocated to MPs, to Ms Adda Nasiima, RDC Mitooma district this afternoon.

The money in liquid cash form was handed over to the district task force on corona virus headed by RDC Adda Nasiima, today at Mitooma district Headquarters. MP Kahonda is the first Mitooma district legislator to return the hot debated Shs 20millions.

During the handover ceremony, MP Kahonda also handed over other items including 300 face masks, 80 jerricans of Liquid soap, testing thermometers and gave Ugx50,000 to each of the 13 members of the district task force meant to facilitate them in campaign against corona virus.

Ms Adda Nasiima, the RDC Mitooma district commended MP Kahonda for complying to the orders and returned the Shs 20million  as well working towards improving the health system in the area.

She urged the people of Mitooma to improve on personal hygiene and preserving Ministry of Health set guidelines on COVID-19 to ensure healthy & safety of their lives.

Apparently, Mitooma district has had less than three ambulance vehicles which could not cater for all health emergencies in hard to reach areas in the district.

MP Kahonda’s donation is more less a greater contribution laid on improving health.

Mr HillaryTwinamatsiko, Councillor Ward III Mitooma Town Council while speaking to our reporter applauded the Mp urging the task force to ensure the items donated are well utilized. He further called for transparency in distributing the items so as they can reach the expected beneficiaries.

The Mitooma Town Council Speaker, Hon Amos Muhanguzi Songs and Councillor Arnold Gift Ashaba, aspirant LCV Youth district Councillor implored the people of Mitooma district especially the youth to follow the precautionary measures in place on social distancing. They also expressed their pleasures on the donations by MP Kahonda to Ruhinda county and Mitooma district.

Hon Arnold G Ashaba is optimistic that the donated ambulance shall help in provision of quick health service accesses and transportation of patients such as expectant mothers, accidents, elderies and the vulnerables in the remote areas in the district.
