The National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED) party has ridiculed President Yoweri Museveni’s intention to groom his son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as the next President of Uganda. Speaking at the Heroes’ Day celebrations in Mpenja, Gomba district, President Museveni expressed confidence in his son’s ability to complete the tasks he has not finished during his tenure.
However, NEED party president Joseph Kabuleeta dismissed Museveni’s plan as a mere dream, stating that Ugandans will not allow a family rule to continue.
“As opposition political parties, we have already embarked on plans to stop family rule,” Kabuleeta said during the party’s weekly press conference in Lubaga.
Kabuleeta also criticized the Heroes’ Day celebrations, calling them a waste of taxpayers’ money. He argued that the heroes being celebrated are responsible for the country’s problems, including rampant corruption, and that new heroes are needed to liberate Uganda again.
The NEED party’s stance is a clear indication of the growing opposition to President Museveni’s plan to install his son as the next President of Uganda.
The move is seen as an attempt to perpetuate family rule and maintain the status quo, which has been criticized for its authoritarian tendencies and human rights abuses.
