At least nine people majority juveniles have been confirmed dead in Freedom City stampede during New Year’s Eve Celebrations in Namasuba, Wakiso District
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson says that the incident occurred at midnight when the event’s MC encouraged attendees to go outside and watch the fireworks display.
“After the display ended, a stampede ensued, resulting in the instant deaths of five people and injuries to several others,” says Owoyesigyire
He added that police emergency responders arrived on the scene and transported the injured individuals to the hospital.
Five persons died on spot while others died moments later according to reports. The bodies have been transferred to City Mortuary Mulago.
