Kampala: The Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya has said he will give away the UShs 200 million meant to buy vehicles to his voters in fulfilment to his pledges made to them during the campaigns.
He says his constituency will access the money through the community groups he has created for development adding that there is no need to drive a huge vehicle when his constituents are suffering especially now that the country is under lockdown to control the spread of COVID-19.
On Tuesday, the clerk to parliament Chris Obore told Parrots UG that parliament had passed Ugx 200 million to each of the 555 members of parliament to purchase a new vehicle to help in their execution of duties.
He revealed that the money had been wired to each of the Mps accounts.
This has attracted debates all over with many people accusing the government of normal spending in this abnormal COVID-19 pandemic.
MP Ssegirinya becomes the first legislator to share his reactions towards the matter ever since the parliament passed on the bill.
