MBARARA,

The Mbarara regional referral hospital administration yesterday refuted allegations of a strange disease outbreak that has been a wash on social media that read, “43 cases of strange disease registered at urology unit of Mbarara regional referral hospital”.

This was yesterday refuted by the hospital administration through the hospital PRO, Mr. Halson Kagure who told jornalists that its on record, no treatment unit at the hospital has registered such a case in the past six months.

Kagure went on to describe the picture that was making rounds on social media that it was an unspecified medical condition that presented with pustules around a male genitalia.

A statement by the hospital PRO, Mr. Kagure

At parrots we talked to the head of urology unit at Mbarara regional referral hospital the one Dr. Marvin Mutakoha after seeing the same picture making rounds on social media who confirmed to us that its he has not seen any patient presenting with such signs.

Mr. Kagure further made a call to the general public and social media users to treat the ongoing postings as downright falsehoods and that the hospital management further calls upon social media users to refrain from sharing the content of such “bad taste” but rather engage in constructive citizen journalism.

Mr. Kagure further said as the hospital they urge the population to promote sanitation and hygiene noting that most of the cases they receive are preventable diseases that should not be referral cases. He said this is one of the causes of overwhelming numbers at the hospital.

Kagure further urged the population to always seek treatment from the lower health centers like health center III’s at the subcounty or HCIV’s/HSD(Health sub district) at the county level to avoid commotion that also leads to drug stock outs before the estimated time as planned by the suppliers (National Medical stores).

He said the lower facilities are supposed to refer patients to Mbarara regional referral hospital only when a case cannot be managed or for the deadly contagious diseases like Ebola and Covid-19 if they have no space for isolation.
