The Office of the Prime Minister of Uganda is chocking on abroad debts raising from the unpaid fee for car hire services for the Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja in her recent visit to US to attend the UN General Assembly in New York.
The demand for payment for monies amounting to US$10313.75 was made in a letter by the permanent representative of Uganda’s Mission to the UN Amb. Adonia Ayebare whose office hired the vehicle on Nabbanja’s behalf recently.
Prime Minister Nabbanja was attending the Women Leaders Forum in In New York on 20th September 2022 on invitation by the president of the UN General Assembly and the Executive Director of UN Women.
The mission hired the vehicle for the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister and her delegation from NY Executive services from 17-21 September 2022 however, the car and the driver were used beyond the agreed hours which attracted an additional charge for overtime and toll fees.
According to the letter dated 29 September 2022, the Sh39.4m was supposed to be remitted to Citibank account in the names of the Permanent Mission of Uganda to the UN based in New York but, the fees remain unpaid.
“This is to request you therefore that the money be remitted to the mission account as soon as possible so that the invoice is settled. Please note that delays in payment of the invoice will attract surcharges”, letter read in part.
