The Orthodox Church of Uganda has on Wednesday received a new Archbishop following the appointment of Metropolitan Leronymos Muzeeyi, the Archbispop of the Holy Metropolitan of Uganda.
Metropolitan Leronymos replaces Outspoken Metropolitan Yonah Lwanga who passed on September5, last year in Athens Greece where he had gone on a visit. Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga, reportedly succumbed to prostate cancer but closed sources connected his death to state managed which the deceased had prior to his death predicted publicly.
The news of the appointment of Metropolitan Leronymos was pronounced by the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church Namungoona, the seat of the Orthodox Church in Uganda.
“Metropolitan Leronymos Muzeeyi of Mwanza has been appointed as the new Archbishop of the Holy Metropolitan of Kampala and all Uganda,” read the good news.
Born on March 18, 1963, in Bulopa, Busoga region in Uganda, Leronymos attended the University of Athens between 1986 and 1991 for Theology. He later continued with his post graduated studies in Canon Law at the University of Athens between 1992 and 1996.
He was ordained Deacon and Priest in 1996. During 1996 and 1997, he served as Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Kampala, and in 1997, he was appointed to similar position at the Diocese of Bukoba Tanzania until 1999.
On November 23, 1999, Leronymos was consecrated Bishop of Bukoba where he was elevated to Metropolitan of Mwanza on November 23, 2007.
