Parliament has resolved to rent another building to accommodate more members of parliament in the 11th parliament who would be with no office following the increased number of members of parliament, Speaker Kadaga has disclosed.
Kadaga made the remarks last week while interfacing with members of parliament from Bugisu and Sebei areas at Hotel Africana in Kampala.
She however did not disclose the building which parliament is to rent.
Anonymous sources told Parrots UG that parliament has rented space at Kingdom Hall Kampala owned by Tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia, located at Nile Avenue along Yusuf Lule Road.
Sources say some offices belonging to MPs in the 11th parliament will move to Kingdom Hall for a period of two years at a yet to disclose largesums fare.
The building sitting on a 14 acres land accomodates corporate companies, Civil Society Organizations and Government Agencies.
Currently, three buildings including the main building of parliament, Development House and Queen Chambers accomodate MPs’ offices.
Parliament had started on project to construct a new chamber but the architect design was later changed thus causing the delays. The new chamber when accomplished will accomodate about 600 member’s parliament.
A total number of 529 MPs will be in the 11th parliament. These also include workers MPs, UPDF & PWDs representatives.
