Following the recent incident on Gulu-Kampala road inwhich a police officer was brutally murdered by machete wielding men, the Uganda People’s Congress has asked police and the military to install tracking system on firearms and body armors that uses GPS and other related technologies to track weapons in real time and assist in their recovery when stolen.
“We urge the Ugandan police and the military to place trackers on the fire arms given to the officers,” UPC said
The suggestion follows after the UPC spokesperson, Arach Oyat Sharon raised suspicions that some of the guns used by the assailants belongs to security officers
“Sometimes, the assailants are found in possession of fire arms that belong to security agencies. This brings us to the question of who is behind these attacks, what is the motive of stealing these guns? And what is the end game?” Arach argued
She made the remarks on Wednesday during a media briefing at Uganda House in Kampala.
UPC urged police and the military to crackdown the perpetrators of the Luweero police office brutal murder and bring them to court
“We call upon the security agencies to work hand in hand with the communities to arrest these criminals and restore harmony in our societies,” Arach urged.
Meanwhile, the UPC has appealed to anyone with the whereabouts of these criminals to come out quietly and inform the police.
