A case of adulteration of water has been reported in Kazo District, Rwizi Region. According to Samson Kasasira the Rwizi police spokesperson, unknown persons allegedly contaminated water sources, including dams, on a farm belonging to Ketty Rwakajara, a 39-year-old businesswoman, in Bongo cell, Kanoni subcounty.
The incident, which occurred on June 5, 2024, resulted in the death of all fish in one of the ponds and affected the cows on the farm. Preliminary investigations suggest a possible link to an ongoing land dispute between the complainant and district leaders, which is currently in court.
Police have recovered a bottle of rocket and white powder suspected to be poison from the farm and collected water samples for toxicology analysis. A veterinary doctor has been contacted to examine the affected animals on the farm.
The investigation is still ongoing, and police are working to identify the perpetrators and determine the motives behind the poisoning. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of water sources in the area and the potential harm to humans and animals.
SP Kasasira has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.
