Six suspected notorious motor vehicle robbers are in police custody after they allegedly stole a car in Mbarara City.
The gang has been allegedly robbing motor vehicles at various functions in Mbarara City including funerals, parties, school visitations and in parking yards.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Abdulkarim Mugisha, one of the members of the gang recently stole a vehicle registration number UAD 635B from shooters bar in Mbarara belonging to Bineruhanga Allan.
Police reported that Mugisha Abdul has been working with other accomplices from Kisekka market namely; Kisukka Jamal, alias Hajji, resident of Nsangi, Maganda Najib of Namungoona, Hamudan Paul of Iganga-Kigulu road, Ismail of Iganga and Kawooya Ben of Nansana.
SCP Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson said the criminal gang has been targeting parking yards of big events where they rob vehicles. He disclosed that some members of this gang were arrested by the Flying Squad Unit in 2020, but recently released from court on bail.
Relatedly, police has revealed that they recovered a motor vehicle with fake registration number UAZ 403C and are currently looking for a suspect known as Mzee Binyebwa, a resident of Makindye Salama who alters car registration number plates and chassis numbers of the robbed vehicle.
