Patrick Oboi Amuriat, the FDC presidential candidate could spend a night sleeping outside after police blocked him and his team from accessing Hilton Tours Inn Hotel in Fort Portal tourism city Kabarole district.
According to Amuriat, they had booked the hotel to spend a night in First Portal but on reaching, they were welcomed by the armed to the tooth police which sealed off the place denying them access.
“The police is blocking us from accessing Hilton Tours Inn where we had booked to spend a night in Fort Portal,” Amuriat posted on his social media pages.
Earlier today, there were skirmishes as police in Bunyangabu blocked Amuriat from entering Kasese town for his campaign trails.
The candidate’s security guard given to him by the ElectoralCommission sustained injuries during the skirmish.
This is not the first time police blocks candidates from accessing hotels which they paid to spend a night in there.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential flagbearer, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert aka Bobi Wine has fallen a victim of police blockade and has for several times and his campaign team including journalusts spent nights sleeping in cars.
It should be recalled that Fort Portal city is among the 13 districts/ cities where political campaigns were banned by the EC citing out COVID-19 cases increase in the areas. Its not yet clear however, whether the blockade is based on this directive.
By press time, Amuriat and his team were still stranded outside the hotel.
