There was commotion at Bata Bata trading centre in Namasuba Makindye Ssabagabo municipality Wakiso district along Entebbe road after a suit case suspected to be containing explosives was abandoned on the roadsideopposite Front Page Hotel.

Suspicious of the bag, residents notified police which responded on time and removed the bag.

According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Police, police bomb squad experts using a sniffer dog were deployed on the scene but, no explosives were dected.

“We would like to inform the general public that today, 25/10/2021, at about 1530hrs, the police at Namasuba recieved information about an abandoned suit case suspected to be containing an explosive at Bata Bata, Namasuba, opposite Front Page Hotel. Our officers responded, cordoned off the scene, ” Owoyesigyire said adding,  “A team of our bomb squad experts using a sniffer dog weren’t able to detect any bomb materials inside the bag.”

He said police opened up the bag and found that it contained men’s clothes not explosives as earlier suspected.

“We went on to safely blow up the bag in order to open and know the contents. Only men clothes were recovered. There were no explosives found inside.” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

Police hailed the community at Bata Bata for being vigilant on fighting threats of terrorism.

Uganda is becoming a haven for terrorists targeting major populated and busy places such as places of worship, markets, public transport and leisure places like bars, restaurants with explosives.

On Saturday  last week, a bomb explosion hit Digida pork joint in Komamboga Kawempe Division Kampala leaving one person dead on spot and Seven injured.

Yesterday, (Monday October 25) another suspected bomb exploded inside Bus belonging to Swift Safaris Ltd that was transporting passengers and their goods from Kampala to Bushenyi. The incident happened at Katende Lugala in Mpigi district leaving two persons dead and scores injured.
