A 58- year-old father in Rukungiri district has been killed by members of his family over unresolved land disputes.
The deceased is Yonasani Turyamureeba, a resident of Rubabo B Cell in Nyabushenyi Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-county Rukungiri District.
He was allegedly killed by his first wife Ntegyereize Sadress 54, who connived with four of her children to commit the stressful murder.
It is alleged that on Saturday January 1st 2022 , at around 7:00 PM, Ntegyereize together with her children Nuwamanya Denis 25, Idan Ainebyoona 18 invited their father to Rwakaraba Trading Centre for a drinking party and at 10:00PM on the same night, the duo together with their father left the trading Center together and his body was the next morning found lying lifeless near Rwakaraba Trading centre.
According to residents, Turyamureeba has had long misunderstandings with his first family who accused him of uneven distribution of land amongst his four wives.
A resident who preferred anonymity told Parrots UG that Local Council authorities attempted to resolve the matter but Ntegyereize and her children remained unsatisfied.
The incident was then reported to Rubabo police by Byamukama Wenceslas, 35 the deceased elder son leading to the arrest of five prime suspects.
The suspects are Denis Nuwamanya, Idan Ainebyona, Consolanta Tindikyeitire, Atananzio Muhwezi, and Sadress Ntegyereize.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate said Police conducted a search and recovered a sharp panga from the home of Denis Nuwamanya which they recovered as an exhibit.
Turyamureba’s body was conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Center III for postmortem and a case of murder was recorded at Rubabo police station Station under Reference 03/02/01/2022.
